Hi guys,
Allie Brosh writes an amazing (though much too occasional) web cartoon and has also written two very popular books. Her website is called Hyperbole and a Half.
I think it’s fair to say that Allie is acquainted with what mental illness feels like from the inside. A lot of her comics share some of her more memorable experiences. Her writing is always honest and real, often uncomfortably so, and usually quite funny as well. The current front-page cartoon is called “Richard” and it’s a true story that is hilarious and also just a smidge disturbing.
Anyway, I’m hoping that people can read the cartoon at the following link. It is mostly not hilarious but it’s really good shit.

The bit below is toward the beginning of the cartoon.
“Feelings as a weakness, annoying obstacles on my quest for total power over myself. And I finally didn’t have to feel them anymore.”
I think those two sentence are truly amazing and go straight to the heart of mental illness … at least in my experience (and hers).
I want to say so much more about this! But for today … just read the comic.
Yes! I haven’t thought of HaaH in like 10 years. Thanks for bringing me back. Genius and heart.
